Staff Training and Development

Our staff training is aimed at providing a sound investment in the development of accountants from formerly disadvantaged backgrounds. Our training is focused on providing opportunities for refining professional skills and advancement within the profession. We are registered with FASSET, being the Finance, Accounting, Management Consulting and other Financial Services SETA. Our Mentoring Programme provides for each staff member to select a senior mentor within the company, which mentor is responsible for the individual training and development of that staff member.

We have a formalised, annual in-house training course, during which staff are trained and developed in forensic accounting and related fields. Staff are provided with the opportunity to attend any professional academic or practical external course of their choice annually, including the attendance of international courses and / or conferences.

We believe that developing the skills and enhancing the capacity of our staff is key to the success of our business. In this regard, we effect substantial transfer of skills, not only technical skills, but inter-personal skills. This includes on-the-job training during live assignments. For example, we have seconded two of our junior staff members to the Department of Public Service and Administration, at no cost, in order for them to receive on-the-job training relating to anti-fraud and anti-corruption prevention in the public sector.

We assist all staff members, including administrative staff, in obtaining a recognised tertiary qualification. Assistance is granted in the form of financial assistance. Each academic year, any staff member who performs well academically in any commercial degree, is awarded a bursary towards the next year’s study.

Continued Professional Development

CPD is defined as learning activities for developing and maintaining the capabilities of professional accountants to perform competently within their professional environments. CPD is aimed at the post-qualification maintenance or enhancement of professional competence. As such, all the professionally qualified resources of GFIA receive ongoing CPD as part of their training.
